Jacob L. Steenwyk’s research centers on understanding the principles of genome evolution. His work often focuses on the evolution of fungi, such as the genetic basis of fungal adaptation to different environments, mechanisms of genome stability, and the evolution of pathogenicity. Steenwyk combines comparative genomics, bioinformatics, and software engineering to uncover insights into the evolutionary processes shaping fungal diversity. His research not only sheds light on fundamental questions in evolutionary biology, but also has implications for fields such as biotechnology and medicine due to the ecological and economic importance of fungi.

Thomas J. Buida III brings extensive software engineering experience to the team. He holds a B.S. in physics, but has spent the vast majority of his professional career working as a software engineer with areas of expertise in Python, Node.js, AWS Cloud, web developement, data engineering, and devops. He enjoys leveraging these skills in the worlds of comparative genomics and bioinformatics to produce tools only possible through interdisciplinary effort.
